Death and Dying: Shifting the Paradigm
Saturday, 9:30 - 10:45 AM :: Sawtooth Room
How can we learn to balance life and death while still holding the mystery in all its sacredness? We have the choice, and it is up to us individually to shift our perceptions around death, and in turn ease our own fears. Certified Death Midwives Kate Riley and Susan Randall can help with that shift - to open up a dialogue, educate and advocate for the dying and their families. Take ownership of the fact that you will one day die, or that a loved one is dying. Learn how you can become personally involved, even if it’s simply by initiating an end-of-life conversation. Stand in awareness with what is happening. Show up fully and be present in the moment because, inevitably, a window will open.

Amazing things happen when you open to a soul on the threshold of death—when you place yourself in that gap between here and there. Death is a mystery and all we can do is be present for the experience. Your personal vision of your own death will inform and shape it. Death is a noble act. When you honor this place of reverence for yourself and for your loved ones, a very deep level of the psyche opens. Witnessing all the wonders of death will teach you about intimacy, about love and compassion. All your fears may well be transcended.

Kate and Susan will also be conducting a workshop on Monday; for more information please click on the "Workshops" tab above.  They are available for private consultations as well; for more information call Sun Valley Events at (208) 726-2777.

Kate Riley is a Certified Death Midwife/Advocate.  As a child, Kate experienced many deaths, and it wasn't until later in adulthood that she sought to transcend the fear she felt at each death. Over time, Kate began to approach the passing of loved ones in a different way. In 2007, when Kate was called to her father's bedside, she experienced something completely different. Suddenly, it felt natural to advocate for her father who was on a ventilator and couldn't speak. Kate found a way to communicate with her father, and in this space both participated in an end-of-life conversation. After his death, she began her training as a death midwife. Kate lives in Hailey, Idaho where she works as an advocate/liaison for the dying and their family members. - Reduce

Certified Death Midwife/Holistic Death Care
At an early age, when she created a graveyard for her pet turtles, Susan realized meaningful ritual was important for honoring the dead. When her best friend disappeared without a trace during her teenage years, Susan learned that the absence of a loved one's body delays the grieving process. As an adult, after viewing a friend's body at the funeral home, she saw the importance of taking charge of the funeral process. These experiences have led Susan to educate folks about their legal choices and options in death care as well as in celebrating this transition. Susan lives in Boise, Idaho, where she works as a practitioner in holistic death care.

A Million Steps
Sunday, 11:15 - 12:30 :: Sawtooth Room
Kurt Koontz thought he was well prepared for his 490-mile walking trip on the historic Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route in Spain. He was fit and strong. He had a good guidebook and all the right equipment. His pilgrim passport would grant him access to the shelter of hostels along the way. But all that, however helpful, did not begin to encompass the grandeur of his external or internal adventure. A Million Steps climbs over the high meadows of the Pyrenees, quests through the unceasing wind of the Meseta, and dances in the rains of Galicia. While following the yellow arrows that mark the route, Koontz also navigates through his personal history of addiction, recovery, and love. With outgoing humor and friendliness, he embraces the beauty of the countryside and joyful connections to other pilgrims from around the world. Part diary, part travelogue, A Million Steps is a journey within a journey all the way to the Cathedral de Santiago de Compostela and beyond.

GMO and Herbicides: The Assault on Our Food, the Environment and Our Health

Presented with Dr. Don Huber
Saturday 3:45 - 5:00 :: Limelight A

Continuing the momentum started at last year's Wellness Festival with Bill McDorman's presentation "Wellness Needs Seeds," we are thrilled to bring these two speakers together to address GMO.  We are truly privileged to be hosting not one, but two of the world’s most esteemed scientists in the fields of herbicides and food production. Both Dr. Hayes and Dr. Huber have spent all of their professional lives studying the human and environmental consequences inherent in modern industrial production. Their respective findings are staggering and must compel us to reconsider the value and safety of the majority of our food received through current farming practices. Many of us are aware of the use of GMO, herbicides and chemical fertilizers but not many realize they are present in nearly all food now available in our grocery stores. These world renowned experts present a rare opportunity to gain insights into food production and what ultimately ends up inside of us.

This presentation will be followed by a Q and A session moderated by Tom Lieber.  Tom Lieber is an internationally recognized abstract painter. A recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts grant, his work is included in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim Museum, SFMoMA, and the Tate Gallery, London among others.  Lieber’s passion for GMO activism is steadfast. His efforts began on Kauai in 2008 and include collaborating with Dr. Vandana Shiva, Dustin Barca, and Ron Finley.

Dr. Hayes was born in Columbia, South Carolina where he spent his youth exploring the flora and fauna which abounded there. He was particularly fascinated by amphibians and the environmental influences upon them. After graduating from Harvard in 1989 he entered the Dept. of Integrative Biology at the Univ. of California, Berkeley where he obtained his PhD. and later completed his post-doctoral studies on molecular mechanisms of hormone action in amphibians. In 1994, he joined the faculty at UC Berkeley as an Assistant Professor and soon after an Associate Professor. His studies became focused on synthetic chemicals, which led him to studies of atrazine, a potent herbicide which he found was an endocrine disrupter affecting reproductive organs. His alarming findings were not appreciated by the agri-chemical giant, Syngenta which had been funding his research. Never the less, he continued his work on atrazine thru numerous fellowship and grants. He was not left at peace, however. Embroiled in lawsuits, stalked and repeatedly threatened for continuing his work, Dr. Hayes persevered in his studies and lectures throughout the world to shed light on the dangers of synthetic chemicals threatening our water, food supply and environment.  Dr. Hayes has published dozens of peer-reviewed papers and his work is featured in many books and documentaries.
To understand Dr. Hayes’ determination to continue his work you only need to read his own words.  “My decision to stand up and face the industry giant was not a heroic one. My parents taught me, “Do not do the right thing because you seek reward… and do not avoid the wrong thing because you fear punishment. Do the right thing, because it is the right thing.” If I want to raise my own children with the same philosophy, then I have to live my life in accordance with the way that I direct theirs. There was only one choice.” - Reduce

Eat Juicy - Think Juicy - Feel Juicy
Sunday 2:00 - 3:15 :: Sawtooth Room

We can all feel better, be happier and live life optimally.  It is time for us all to stop surviving and start thriving. The food we eat can either heal us or kill us; the thoughts we think are the most important keys to the outcome of our lives, and the body is our temple meant to be strong, flexible and vibrating at a high frequency. Hydration is the key to health and to EAT JUICY is to eat food that is full of water, nutrients, life force, digestive enzymes and oxygen.  It is to drink liquids that are fresh, alkaline and nourish us on a cellular level. The state of our mind creates either a happy or miserable life.  Negative thoughts cause disease, but to THINK JUICY is to have a mind focused on creation, positivity, self love and gratitude.  A healthy flexible spine is essential to longevity. To FEEL JUICY is to release all stored up negative emotions and to be fully connected to our strong, fluid and healthy body.  It is to listen to the messages and desires coming from within.

Petra reminds us how our bodies were designed, how powerful our minds are and how we were meant to live on this planet.  The information she shares speaks to our hearts and souls because intuitively it makes sense and deeply resonates within.  Her message is simple, profound, changes lives and empowers people.  It is her mission that every person has the tools to live an extraordinary life. When we EAT JUICY, THINK JUICY and FEEL JUICY we are healthy, happy and empowered!  How awesome!

Simplicity Parenting
Sunday, 11:15 AM - 1:15 PM :: Limelight A

In this lecture, Kim explains why less is more and presents four simplicity pathways you can take to help your child feel calmer, happier and more secure. This is the work and the workshop which provided the inspiration for Kim’s book by the same name.  It presents not only the four simple steps, but examples of how to bring “the power of less” into your home on a daily basis.

So much of modern life seems to be about more. Very few presentations you will attend will suggest that you do less, but this is one of them. It quietly presents ‘do-able’ daily ways in which we can simplify our families lives and by doing so build resiliency within our children.

Harnessing Biobehavioral Science to Optimize Health
Saturday, 11:15 - 12:30 :: Limelight A
Although the existence of the mind-body link has long been understood at an intuitive level, recent research is beginning to reveal the biochemical pathways that connect stress, mental health, and physical health. An individual's perception of stress stems from a combination of genetics, behavior, and accumulated life experiences.  Importantly, these factors shape an individual's "biological sensitivity to context," or characteristics that predispose some people to thrive only under ideal conditions ("orchids"), others to thrive anywhere ("dandelions"), with most people on a continuum somewhere between the two extremes.  These differences in reactivity and response to stress can set into motion a biological cascade effect with important implications for health, behavior, performance, cognitive functioning, and overall quality of life.  The emerging field of "salivary bioscience" (the non-invasive measurement and analysis of saliva) has provided an opportunity to examine these dynamics, and gain insight into how stress biomarkers fluctuate amidst everyday life experiences such as stress, social interaction, sleep, exercise, and excitement.  Our presentation will provide an overview of cutting-edge research related to the psychobiology of stress and performance, and discuss strategies for translating the basic science into opportunities to optimize health and wellbeing for individuals and families.

Sheila O. Walker, PhD, completed her doctoral research in the field of Behavioral Genetics focused on the relative influence of nature (genetics) and nurture (the environment) on human behavior, with a specific focus on characteristics important for education and learning.  Of particular interest from the genesis of her academic career has been a concerted focus on how biologically sensitive research can be applied, in a practical manner, to help people live healthier, more productive lives.  Subsequent to completing her Ph.D., Dr. Walker taught a course at Georgetown University entitled "Nature, Nurture, and Human Development", attended by a diverse group of students majoring in fields including medicine, psychology, and business.  In early 2012, she joined the Center for the Early Life Origins of Disease at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, with a research focus on examining the how the convergence between biological, genetic, epigenetic, and environmental factors such as nutrition, exercise, sleep, and stress shape the later development of chronic illness, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and obesity.  Most recently, Dr. Walker’s research has been focused on the system-wide biological effects of chronic stress, and understanding ways in which biological technology can be applied to enhance behavioral, academic, and health related outcomes.  Dr. Walker also holds a position as an Adjunct Professor at Arizona State University, where she is part of a team focused on advancing basic discovery and application of salivary bioscience. - Reduce

What’s Up on Planet Earth? The Birth of a New Civilization, Global Awakening & the Oneness Phenomenon
Saturday 3:45 - 5:00 PM :: Sawtooth Room
The Oneness Phenomenon and the Oneness Blessing AKA Oneness Deeksha are helping to affect a global shift in human consciousness and help Humanity face unprecedented changes on planet earth. Oneness Deeksha is  a transfer of sacred intelligent energy which brings about a permanent shift in the way our brains experience reality. When the shift occurs, our feelings of inner conflict, alienation and separation disappear. We call this shift Awakening. With Awakening comes freedom from resistance to the reality of the present moment. There is a calm acceptance of whatever is happening and the ability to flow with it spontaneously. This is the promise of Awakening, and as more and more people become awakened the collective consciousness of Humanity itself is shifting.

Rev. Milner will be offering two Oneness Meditation sessions, which are free and open to the public without a pass or ticket.  These will be held in the Columbine Room on Saturday from 5:05-6:20 pm and on Sunday from 8:00-9:20 am.

Celebrity Psychic-Medium Peggy Rometo
Saturday, 11:15 am — 12:30 pm :: Sawtooth Room
Join Hay House author, intuitive healer, and psychic-medium Peggy Rometo as she turns back time and relays the stories that led her to her psychic gifts.  From the age of six, after being taunted by brothers that she didn’t actually see and speaking with her recently deceased grandmother, Peggy could feel the world of spirit. For years she was haunted nightly; her covers would be ripped off and she was jerked to the end of the bed by her feet. She fought for sleep and peace of mind. After enduring countless losses as an emerging young adult, from the sudden death of a potential boyfriend, to being raped twice, to dreaming of her brother Dave’s unexpected death, all before the age of 25, she wasn’t sure what to be more afraid of, the afterlife or life itself.  It wasn’t until the death of yet another older brother, Larry - this time unforeseen - that she finally got fed up with the suffering and demanded resolution. She started to fight back and quickly got strong. Larry’s death ignited a desire within her and propelled her to think differently and ask better questions. She started with, “What should my life be used for?” And she turned to God for the answers. She tapped into her intuitive and psychic ability as a force for good, one that would change the course of her life forever.  The presentation will be followed by a guided meditation and a chance to have Peggy intuitively answer your questions.

Peggy will also be conducting a workshop on Friday; for more information please click on the "Workshops" tab above.To schedule a private session with Peggy please contact Sun Valley Events at (208) 726-2777.

She has appeared on FOX News’ Strategy Room and We tv and has been featured at Hay House “I Can Do It” events, Donna Karan’s NYC-based Urban Zen Studio, the Omega Institute, and the Zurich-based Lebenskraft Festival.

her life resisting her gifts, and became a successful entrepreneur
and real estate investor and raised three children together with
her husband Bob. At age 38, she lost a brother in an unexpected accident, prompting her to reevaluate her life’s purpose. She instantly connected to a wellspring of inner guidance, which she has honed to understand intuitive ability in herself and others.
